An important addition to the acclaimed publication programme of the two Foundations was the production of the lavish volume "The Wall-Paintings of Thera" in Greek, English and German. The volume is of significant artistic and scientific value, and contains colour photographs of all the wall paintings of Thera which have been discovered and restored to date. The text has been edited by Professor Christos Doumas, Director of the Excavation at Akrotiri. The volumes were produced by KAPON Publications.
The Wall-Paintings of Thera received the coveted 1993 Academy of Athens Award.
In summer 2000 The Thera Foundation and Idryma Theras-Petros M. Nomikos published the Proceedings of the First International Symposium "The Wall Paintings of Thera". Its three volumes, with original papers and illustrations, are an important contribution to Theran studies, since they record information about the economy, culture, religion, nature, and everyday reality of an Aegean society in the Second Millennium B.C. Dr Susan Sherratt of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, edited the volumes, while Ms Kiki Birtacha and Mr Manolis Zacharioudakis were responsible for the aesthetic side of the production. The volumes were published by PERGAMOS Publications.
